Q. What is the working principle of a colloidal mill?
A.A colloidal mill operates via a rotor-stator system. In this system, a quickly rotating rotor approaches a stationary stator, resulting in a narrow space between them. When a mixture of solids and liquids is introduced into the mill, it passes through this gap. The enormous shear pressures produced by the high-speed spinning break down the solid particles into tiny bits and fairly distribute them throughout the liquid. This process helps stable emulsions or suspensions to be created. Changing the distance between the rotor and stator will help one change the particle size. The resultant mix is then thrown from the mill and produces homogeneous goods fit for a range of industries, including food processing and pharmaceutical manufacturing.
