Its efficiency in processing material depends on both its capacity and extruder size, which determine each other as well. Larger extruders usually handle more material even if their surface area would cause more thermal losses. The L/D ratio is the other important factor; for single-screw extruders, it usually falls between 24 and 36. This ratio is very infrequently used overall. This ratio determines the extruder's melting and mixing capacity for different materials.
