Q. What is rubber V belt?
A.In mechanical equipment, a V-belt is a rubber belt used for power transmission from a shaft to another. It is called by this name because it has a V-shaped cross-section that causes it to nest snugly in pulley grooves. This design is properly suited to transfer power and also to prevent slippage. Usually made of a rubber compound with elasticity and flexibility to enable the belt to curve around pulleys. Tensile filaments, usually made of synthetic fibers or steel, are contained within the rubber and give the belt strength and torque-handling properties.Rubber V-belts are used in engine, air compressor, fan, and pump drive systems. They vary in construction from wrapped to raw-edge type. Raw-edge V-belts have exposed sidewalls of the rubber that provide friction and reduce slippage, while wrapped V-belts are wrapped over with fabric or plastic and therefore protected and quiet. Generally providing tough and effective power transmission, rubber V-belts are handy and trustworthy components in the majority of industrial and automotive applications.
