A.The mechanism of an oil separator is to remove oil from other materials, including water or refrigerants, by different means. Gravity can be used in oil-water separators to move oil upwards because oil droplets with a lower density rise to the top. Small oil droplets then stick together, making them easier to remove. One can also push heavier parts outward with the centrifugal force. Oil separators in refrigeration systems divide oil from refrigerants using centrifugal force and filters thereby allowing efficient system functioning. Moreover, air-oil separators divide oil from compressed air by means of filtration and gravity, so improving machinery performance.
