Q. What is the theory of piston pump?
A.The theoretical basis of a piston pump is basically converting mechanical energy into hydraulic energy. The piston moves within a cylinder to achieve this purpose. Movement of this piston creates pressure to move fluid. Since it reciprocates with a back-and-forth motion, pressure is created that makes fluid move. In one direction, the piston draws fluid into the cylinder. In the other direction, the fluid is pushed out by the piston. This process generates hydraulic system pressure with high magnitude. The fluid being moved is quantified by piston size and length of stroke. There are essentially two categories under which piston pumps fall: these are axial and radial piston pumps. Axial pumps have a line of pistons, and radial pumps consist of pistons in a circular pattern. Both types work on the same basic principle, but the design and application vary. The piston pump is effective for generating strong pressure in various hydraulic systems.
